Al Dar Island (part 2)

So now, I will continue about my island trip. I included some photos of us in the water, which again was beautiful. I didn't want to get out ever. The water was very very salty though. By the end of the day my eyes were burning like you wouldn't believe. But, the saltiness made it so easy to float in the water. We saw flying fish, which is actually kind of scary the first time you see one, because they just come out of the water so quickly, and fly right past your face, so it definitely catches you off guard. There was also a star fish, and crabs and 1 sea urchin. I stayed far away from the crabs, and away from where the sea urchin was spotted. Myself and the girls swam pretty far out from the beach, and were able to skinnydip from there and swim around. It was awesome. In our tent we ate burgers and chicken and veggies and had drinks and chip. Charmaine tried a pretty awesome shot (a giant shot the size of a normal drink), called the flaming Lamborghini. This is one of those shots that is lit on fire. Needless to say, by the end of the shot, Charmaine was having an even better time. We enjoyed dancing in the tent and singing. Eventually, the day came to an end as the sun began to set. I was sad that it was time to leave this lovely little island, but I had an absolutely amazing time being with my friends.

Ahhhhh...... Al Dar Island (part 1)

Last weekend was an amazing weekend, and just what I needed after another crazy week of school. A group of us went to Al Dar island on Saturday. Al Dar island is a small island about a 10 or 15 minute boat ride from Bahrain's coast. In the morning, I left with Charmaine and Tammy, as we drove to the port. However, we got lost on the way. Charmaine and I seem to be lost constantly when we are driving, which is partly due to the fact that the roads here are not very well marked. On our way to the port, we ended up at 1. the toll booth to enter Saudi Arabia (which as unmarried females, we cannot cross, let alone be driving in Saudi), and 2. we ended up at a camel farm lol. Although we were late and holding people up, the fact that we ended up in these 2 places, both which are far from the port, left us laughing hysterically, and really excited when we finally made it to the port. So in the top photo, starting from the left, there is Susan (event coordinator and friend), myself, Tammy (Charmaine's roommate, my friend), Rachel (my roommate), and Charmaine (lives downstairs, my friend as well). This is us waiting at the port, we did have more people that joined up, maybe about an additional 12 people. So, we took the boat ride to the island (picture of Charmaine and the boat captain in the 2nd photo). In my 3rd picture, although its hard to see because the picture is smaller, but if you look off in the distance of the photo, you will see a little black dot, which was a dolphin. On our boat ride, we saw lots of dolphins in the water, so I of course attempted to capture a picture of one. We finally arrived at the island, which was really nice. The water was clear and a perfect temperature (not too hot, but not too cool either). There were food stands, music, and a bar. We had a private tent that we got to use for the day, which was nice to have some shade from the hot sun. We brought food and drinks and did some grilling and played some music. This will conclude part one of the island trip, but I will make my second post with my additional pics from the island, and finish my story.

Hani's Birthday

Here was another fun weekend adventure (although I have fun every weekend). After payday, we all decided to go out and celebrate our friend Hani's birthday. Hani is a teacher at our school as well, and he teaches computer to my class, as well as the other elementary classes. He is such a sweetheart and always a fun time. So, Hani, Tareq (also a teacher at our school), Charmaine and myself decided to go out and celebrate. We went to about 5 different bar/clubs before we found one we like, which coincidentally was Enigma (where we saw the cool old man). We have come to the conclusion that Enigma is one of the funner places to go in Bahrain. Anyways, the same South African band was playing, and the music was awesome as usual. We met up with our friend Cath as well (with the red hair), and we danced the entire time we were there, which was until beyond the closing time. We concluded by getting some food from Fuddruckers at about 3am, because nothing beats greasy food at a late hour after a night of partying.

The Coolest Old Man in Bahrain

I apologize for not posting in almost a month, but life has been busy as ever. Regardless, I have been completely compelled and obligated to dedicate a post to this old man. One weekend, my dear friend Charmaine and I (the blonde lady), decided to try out a new bar called Enigma. Upon our arrival to this bar, we saw by far, the coolest old man in Bahrain. This man was hanging out at the bar by himself, and was dancing the entire time. Understand, this bar played top 40, club and techno type music, and this man was really into it, and he actually was a pretty good dancer. Usually when you see a man of this age (white hair and all, (pictured in the top 2 photos), you would expect him to 1. not dance, or 2. dance but maybe not fit in so well. So eventually, Charmaine and I decided to dance with this awesome man. We ended up having a really fun night. Part of the time there was a South African band performing cover songs, and the other part of the time there was a d.j. And of course, this bar hosts ladies night as well, which means we didn't have to spend a single dinar to have an amazing time.
